The hidden meaning of the Greenland's flag

Although relatively young, this flag symbolizes Greenland as is.

On last 23 September was celebrated in Greenland the national day of this great territory, which has the name Ullortuneq, but this year has also been the thirtieth birthday of its flag, called Erfalasorput.

Thue Christensen, was the designer of this flag, and even he made several previous designs with a cross as principal element, similar to the flags of some Scandinavian countries, they did not convince. But the final design reflects his country perfectly.

The flag is described as reflecting the sun in the sea at sunset. It consists of a red and white sun at the center, but behind that there is a meaning: the white of the circle represents the icebergs, while the white background refers to the glaciers and the extensive frozen land. The red background symbolizes the vastness of the ocean.

In other hand, the coat of arms of Greenland is, how could not be in other way, a polar bear.

Although the flag has a special meaning for Greenlanders, maintaining some of the traditions of the Danish flag, as its use on holidays and celebrations.

Kim Kielsen, Prime Minister of Greenland, expressed his opinion on the Erfalasorput flag "for young citizens is part of their traditions, while for older generations was a great impact on your moment, because they grew up with the Dannebrog (the Danish flag).

In short, Erfalasorput represents the entire Greenlandic population and its cold and immense region.
